- Algebra Connections is a first year algebra course that builds understanding through the connections of multiple representations of various concepts. These representations include building and analyzing patterns, graphs, tables, working with algebraic expressions. As the students learn how to move from one representation to another, they build a solid foundation of understanding, seeing how the algebraic concepts are interconnected. The growth of a pattern becomes the rule for a table, which itself becomes the slope of a line on a graph and a representation of “rate”. In the second trimester, we look deeper at solving algebraic equations and manipulating expressions, and using visual tools and manipulatives to better understand what the algebra is showing us. The year ends with our work on the quadratic equation as we move from lines to curves, using an innovative as well as highly visual technique that again reinforces the students’ understanding. We also learn to simplify and evaluate highly complex algebraic expressions.

This class has morphed into a Moodle Introduction Class. All teachers will be students in this class run by the Moodle Administrator. Upper level classes in the Moodle Testing group will be assigned to various teachers with all other teachers as students in those classes.
In this class, the Gradebook is visible to students, it could have been hidden. Activity reports are visible as well. This is not a meta course.
A meta course takes enrolments (and other role assignments) from a "child" course or courses. In other words, for every child course added to the meta course, all students (and users in other roles) are also enrolled in the meta course.
