Course Overview

The thematic context for English 9, Individual Voices & Coming of Age, invites students toexamine closely the unique voices that speak to usfrom compelling works of literature and to cultivatetheir own voices through a variety of writing assignments. The readings focus on experiences or conflicts that lead to transformation. Through reading fiction, a play, and poetry, students will reflect upon issues of change and growth. In class discussions, personal narratives, and essays, students will examine the transition from childhood to adulthood, as found in literature and in their own lives.
